Many a time does one notice a  
dysphoria of deprivation that colors the states of depersonalization--epileptic or otherwise. 
The typical patient is an individual who has experienced episodes of frustration and fear that were not only intense but also abrupt, unforeseen and horrifying to the point of being genuinely traumatic. Characteristically, this is in the context of an experience of chronic rejection by the primary caregiver.
